Environmental Manager
Artemis Gold Inc., listed on the TSX Venture exchange, is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financial capacity aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions, like the recently acquired Blackwater Gold Project in central British Columbia approximately 160 km southwest of Prince George and 450 km northeast of Vancouver.

You will make a significant impact, working with the project team to lead and guide excellence in environmental management for the Blackwater Project. Blackwater is an advanced-stage mine development project which received its environmental assessment approvals in 2019, early works construction permits in 2021, and is in the final permitting phase with the goal of commencing major works construction in 2022.
Reporting to the General Manager of Blackwater, this full-time and permanent position will be responsible for the environmental management aspects of the Project, developing a sustainability culture and for implementing processes, programs and communications that result in high environmental performance. A strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship is essential for success in this role.
Location of Position
The role is based at the Blackwater Project site which is 165 km Southwest of Prince George, BC.
This position will be on 2 weeks on 2 weeks off rotation.
Scope of Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Be the senior point of contact for the environment department with site operational department Superintendents and Managers and oversee and supervise the day-to-day construction activities of the environment team and consultants.
- Lead budgeting, cost management and site reporting activities for the environmental department.
- Accountability for water, waste, wildlife, reclamation, aquatic health monitoring programs (e.g., fisheries, environmental effects monitoring, land disturbance and biodiversity management), and other site environmental programs, including work plan development, scheduling, planning for safe field programs, data assimilation, interpretation, and drafting reports
- Coordinate health and safety requirements (contractor/consultant) for implementing field programs, including spending time directly in the field as required
- Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental management Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act)
- Mentor and coach environmental field crews, Indigenous monitors and consultants to ensure completion of field programs (including mentoring of strong field data collection skills).
- Lead site update engagement initiatives with Indigenous nations
- Accountable for implementation and adherence to project environmental regulatory requirements including compliance/ sustainability assurance and reporting
- Support implementation of project agreements, education and training initiatives
- Complete compliance audits against permit/licence requirements and social obligations
- Guide preparation and execution of regulatory reporting (quarterly, annual).
- Implementation of an environmental management system while adhering to corporate environmental standards
- Maintenance of good relations with British Columbia and Federal regulators
- Support the community relations team in communication with Indigenous nations and local communities, including travel to communities as needed
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in management of environmental aspects at a mine site.
- A Bachelors degree in a related field, or a combination of education and experience could be considered
- Experience in mine permitting and compliance in British Columbia
- Knowledge of the various technical processes associated with a mining/process operation.
- Superlative communication and presentation skills, particularly in presenting technical information in plain language
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to gain cooperation and support through discussion, negotiations, and persuasion.
- Candidates with a professional BC designation such as PEng, PGeo, RPBio is considered an asset.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to travel throughout the region including overnight as required by the work.
- Candidates located within or willing to locate to the project region are strongly preferred.
- Experience with cold weather operations.
