National Day of Mourning

Every year on April 28, workers, families, employers, and communities across British Columbia and Canada come together to observe the National Day of Mourning. It is a time to remember those who have lost their lives due to workplace incidents or occupational disease, and to renew our shared commitment to safer workplaces.
In 2025, 138 B.C. workers died from a workplace injury or disease. Of these, 59 fatalities were due to traumatic injury and 79 were the result of occupational disease.
On April 28, we honour and remember those who have died, were injured, or became ill from their job, and we renew our commitment to health and safety in the workplace.
